 | LOWLAND Whisky Region Not many Lowland distilleries remain today, but they have always been known for making single malts of a light and mellow nature; a perfect place to embark on a whisky experience.
Once upon a time, there used to be a malt whisky distillery in every town of any size in the Lowlands, supplying global demand as well as Scottish, now sadly, only a handful remain. Those distilleries still in existence are typically soft and approachable, clean and fresh on the palate - their appeal reaching far and wide.
The whiskies here tend to be light in colour with a dry, crisp finish, making Lowland malt the aperitif of choice due to its generally sweet fruity essence; mellower than its Highland neighbour. The beauty of the Lowland malt is its versatility; it can be enjoyed by the whisky learner and connoisseur alike. Perfect before dinner: floral and fragrant, with a clean fresh flavour and a short, dry, gingery finish.
